My online content creation, articles and more!

Image
Hi, So, as we all know I am a PR MA student and before that I was studying journalism. Throughout my education, I racked up lots of skills, content and student debt. The first two will be the ones this blog post will showcase (if you do want to help out on the last part I am not turning down a rich millionaire.)  Why is it important to have an online portfolio?  Well, by recording the work you have created you can upload them on a platform or doc which can be viewed by potential employers to back up your creativity and initiative. It can show who you are and your interests visually and your dedication. It does not have to be fancy or eloquent, just a few pages here and there that you can send. My own experience in the industry is that it is quite hard to sometimes gain experience so by pushing yourself at home can be a great way to do that before applying for any opportunities.  Articles Articles can be shown on request for the privacy of those involved. Evaluation

Hi!  I'm back to hopefully continue this blog sporadically over the next few months if procrastination does not get the best of me. This blog was originally created as a way to create an online presence as well as mixing it with a hobby I love. I want to continue to create content where I can develop my skills. Now that the assignment is done, I can look back and give an e valuation of what went well and what didn't go quite as well (in the words of Hannah Montana “Nobody’s Perfect”.) Enough of 2000s Disney references, in communications and public relations it is important to evaluate from research to the overall campaign to understand what could be improved on.  What went well: I pride myself on creating and curating a wide range of content and the infographics, videos and content developed over this time proves that.  One key aspect of this campaign was to promote engagement and while I sadly could never reach the heights of Bella Hadid at least an effort was made and some

Gaming in Numbers: facts and stats of an industry

Image
The gaming industry is full of statistics and facts, from gaming units to social media platforms you cannot escape the figures. Maths and numbers are all around us (which isn’t great if you’re like me who hated maths and had to re-sit. I guess my teacher was right when she said that we will use maths even after secondary school. However, I still haven’t used fractions since so I would say I won that argument.)  A data visualisation that showcases the best selling games throughout the decades Credit to Captain Gizmo As a practitioner, it is important to know the engagement that a platform can bring as you can then promote your key messages to a wide audience. It is also important to follow trends so you can understand what the current market wants. There are various tools and apps that allow practitioners to keep track of the industry but sometimes it can be as simple and inexpensive as a Google Trends search (which is great for a broke university student like myself.) This incredibly t

The middleman: the true role of a community manager in gaming

Image
This blog post will go over the role of a community manager in the gaming industry. This infographic showcases various aspects of the role from what it can entail, responsibilities and the skills required. An interest in this job role developed due to my passion for gaming and how many of the skills introduced and developed in public relations can be beneficial for becoming a community manager.  There is crossover between the two industries and shows that public relations can branch out to different opportunities. This is just a small window into the profession just to let the audience understand the importance of the role. Art of a News Release

Image
When working in a PR firm or freelance regardless of the industry you are in. A common task is writing a press release. A press release is a term that you may be vaguely aware of but have no idea what a press release is ? Well, they are documents that are sent out to the media to promote or inform the public of an event involving the organisation. They are used in most industries including gaming companies to inform journalists of releases or events. It can be beneficial to a journalist who is looking for a story and it can provide publicity for the organisation that sent out the press release.  While press releases have been a common fixture in public relations, the desire for transparency in the industry has led to some changes. A notable change is that when press releases were sent out privately it is now a fairly common practice for firms to upload their press releases online even if a competitor sees it. This is to show transparency and is easier for a journalist to locate. It is
